'Alcoholiday' is the seventh of ten instalments of our debut album, entitled ‘Freak Scene’, which we're releasing song by song, one every two weeks...
The album is a set of ‘weird covers’… The original versions were all recorded between ’88 & ’92, by bands that used guitar noise at the centre of their sound (call it grunge, art punk, indie rock, shoegaze, whatever) - Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth, Pixies, Pavement, My Bloody Valentine… - and our versions strip away the dirt & the electricity, and reinvent what’s left with acoustic instruments, harmony voices, Latin percussion, jazz-inflected woodwinds…
The first six singles, our versions of Dinosaur Jr.'s 'Freak Scene', Pavement's 'Summer Babe' & 'So Stark (You're A Skyscraper)', 'You Made Me Realise' by My Bloody Valentine, 'She Rides The Waves by the Pale Saints and 'River Euphrates' by the Pixies, are available from a sidebar near you >>>

"Song number seven is our Silver Panda reworking of one of my favourite songs from the early '90s, which is Teenage Fanclub's 'Alcoholiday' from their debut 'Bandwagonesque' LP from 1991...
I loved the album when it came out, and it was a big influence on my teenage band at the time, and despite not being a single, I think this is the best song on it... The hook just seems to be endless...
I had a lot of fun on our version creating a bass guitar part on my trusty Hofner semi, with some sections having two basses happening at once, with a low part underpinning the chord and a higher part playing melodic counterpoint to the voices... I was really happy with the way it came out...
Some tasty glockenspiel action in there too for fans of twinkly tuned percussion..."
Everything from Big Crown records is amazing. A great cross-section of their artists here all covering Sunny & the Sunliners (who you should also listen to!) The Silver Panda
One of our favourites out of a dazzling collection of intriguing albums on Bandcamp from the Moon Glyph label... Beautiful cover artwork too! The Silver Panda
